Back at it

After taking the better part of three weeks off to allow my calves to heal, I figured it was time to give this whole ‘running thing’ another go. I’m cranky AF and no longer in any physical pain, so it’s time.

I mentioned in my last post that I was looking into the Hanson’s Half Marathon Method. Their beginner plan is 18 weeks long and wouldn’t you know it – I have 17 weeks and 6 days until the R n’ R LA half.

Lucky for me, the first 4 weeks is more of a slow build up than anything else (thank God, because I need to ‘catch up’…I can tell some fitness is gone.) I only have 10 miles on the schedule this week and I already completed 3 today.

I’m not sure how July is going to go (I’m literally spending 4 days on planes and 10-ish nights in hotels…and, yes, I do plan to FaceTime my cats, thanks for asking) but as long as I can squeeze 3-4 short runs a week in, I should be good. There’s also that whole possibility of sinus surgery thing going on, but I’m not gonna stress until I know for sure and I’m just going to keep moving forward (until my ENT tells me otherwise…I go for an MRI soon to figure it all out.)

I know it’s just been one day of running, but the endorphins already kicked in and I feel a calmness I haven’t felt in months (despite having a shitty week filled with kitty seizures and shark week.) Running almost always brings me out of a funk. I’m happy to be back at it!

Baxter, getting his daily workout in. His favorite activities including chewing plastic and cardboard (much to the dismay and horror of his helicopter mom.)
