So, in my most recent (I think?) post, I talked about the possibility of running the LA Marathon in 2018. I’ve had about a month to think and reflect (and get over the Dodgers’ heartbreaking World Series loss) and I think the best thing to do is postpone running the LA Marathon until 2019.
The biggest factor in my decision was how quickly the marathon was approaching. I’ve been taking it easy with running/exercise since October. Yes, I’ve been exercising a few times a week since I finished Chicago, but I don’t feel as strong as I should to be in full-on marathon training mode (which, at this stage, you have to be on your game – there’s very little room for error.) I believe we are now 15 weeks out and while that’s enough time to train with the base I have, the reality is that I don’t want to just ‘finish’ another marathon. I really want to go all-in and kick ass. I’m not sure I can do that in 14 weeks with where I’m at right now.
So, while I’m bummed, I’m also really happy to run the San Diego Rock n’ Roll Marathon on June 2nd, as San Diego has been my second home since my first day on this planet. Like, I’m really stoked. I think it will be awesome! I will officially start training at the end of January (which, perfect timing, since it will be light out again in the evenings shortly after I start.) I am planning on running the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half in May as a tune-up and may find another local-ish half before then as well. Once I finish San Diego, I plan to take a few weeks of active recovery before training for the City to the Sea Half Marathon in October (I’ve missed the last two years because I ran Chicago instead.) I have BIG goals for that race and will be gunning for a sub-2. Once City to the Sea is over, I will jump into training for LA in March of 2019 and will try to find a half marathon (or two) to run before then.
I’m not sure what life will hold after that (I’m not ready to think about 2020 yet) but I have several marathons on my bucket list. I love out of state races (best way to be a tourist, I tell you) but they are harsh on the wallet, so I’ll have to see where I’m at next year…but I would love to conquer Chicago and NYC again in the near future, especially since skipping the Chicago Marathon lottery was really sad for me this year (but I really need to focus on building my 6 month emergency fund and I can’t do both.)
So, that’s that. All I have to do is control my holiday wine consumption so I don’t end up doing something stupid, like sign up for the 2018 LA Marathon (you want to know how I ended up running Chicago and NYC? I was drunk and entered myself in the lotteries. Apparently I’m lucky when it comes to marathon lottery entry.)

(Best hangover ever? Y/N)
