You guys – I finished the Chicago Marathon!!!!! I wish I finished faster, but given how hot it was and how awful the last 6 weeks of training were, it’s a miracle that I crossed the finish line to begin with. Most importantly, I had fun. So, so much fun. It’s amazing what can happen when you get out of your own head and ignore expectations.
I’ll write a full post with all my thoughts on the race soon, but right now I’m focused on figuring out what’s next for me. I’ve been dealing with so many changes (most good) but I haven’t really had a chance to adjust to my new schedule and figure out how to balance things and take good care of myself. I’m traveling to Sacramento for a conference this week, but life should be my new ‘normal’ once it’s over.
In the meantime, I’m trying to resist signing up for a million more races. The thing about running half and full marathons is that they are addicting. I also don’t want to lose strength or fitness and I do much better sticking to workouts when I have a goal/event. I’m signed up for the San Diego Rock n’ Roll marathon in June and I’m excited, but I really want to run Chicago again. It’s going to be a challenge to not throw my name in the lottery this year, but I know it’s probably a bad idea financially and I’m already going to Chicago next summer for a bachelorette party…twice in one year might be too much. That being said, I’ve been known to register for things after one too many glasses of wine. I’ll do my best. I also know that the Chicago marathon will be there for me in other years. It’s a tough call.
For now, I’m slowly easing back into running (probably too soon) and swimming. I also want to buck up and get back to spinning and weight training. I’m also still 5-8 lbs over my healthy BMI (yes, I know BMI isn’t the best measure of health, but I know I have some fat to lose.) and I’m about 20 lbs over my happy weight and 25 over my ideal. Getting weight off would really help me get faster. Dieting isn’t for me, but I’m watching what I put into my body and trying not to get stressed about it. The times I’ve had the most success losing weight were the times didn’t worry about following a specific plan.
I need to get better at wrapping posts up, but I’m blogging from my phone and it’s hurting my hand, so this is all you get. Oh, and GO DODGERS!!!

My posts put them to sleep
