Chicago Marathon training week 6 recap

Hey, y’all. Just popping in for a quick training recap. I finally got my mileage up, despite having a crappy week all around last week.  My long run/weekend run was not ideal at all, but I adjusted as best I could given the wildfires/weather.  I also finally broke down and ordered new running shoes because the cushioning on mine are shot and it was becoming increasingly more uncomfortable to run . I’m looking forward to breaking them in (though, they are my beloved Asics Gel Kayanos, so I doubt I’ll really need to break them in.)

Here’s the breakdown from last week:

Monday: Ran 3 miles…though I can’t remember if it was during lunch or after work.

Tuesday: Ran 3 miles at lunch

Wednesday: Rest (more like: too tired and cranky to do anything.)

Thursday: Swam at lunch and ran 4.5 miles after work

Friday: Rest

Saturday: Ran 6.5 miles

Sunday: Ran 6 miles

Weekly total: 23

Breaking up a long run is not ideal at all, but between the heat, air quality and a few run-ins with people on the trail by the riverbed, I did what I could. Honestly, I think it was almost more difficult to do 2 medium distance runs in less than 24 hours than it would have been to get it done in one shot.  PS – did you know ‘smoky’ is an actual forecast on the iphone weather app? Because it is. Who knew?

On to week 7 – not sure what my goals are this week, but I’d like to see my mileage go up to 26 or 27 miles for the week. Also, I only swam once last week – I’m looking forward to hitting the pool twice this week. I also need to figure out the long run sitch this weekend, because I have a wine event Saturday afternoon that I really want to fit in.
