Chicago week 1

There’s not much to put here because I took the first week of training off to recover from the half (my calf was bothering me a bit from San Diego) and to recover from the busy two weeks I had prior. I was going to work out yesterday, but ended up having WAY too much fun at a wine pick-up party Saturday and didn’t feel up to bouncing on a treadmill yesterday (when will I learn that my body has a 2 drink max?)  I could write a whole post on hangovers and how much worse they are in your 30s than in your 20s (why, God, WHY?!)  but really, I’m not a big drinker these days and I only seem to forget that I’m not 21 once or twice a year. I’m not planning on getting anywhere near that for the next 17 weeks of my life (maybe I’ll need to become one of those bloggers that posts pictures of every single meal to hold myself accountable on that one.)

I’m using the official Nike training plan for the Chicago Marathon – they have two separate plans – a debut plan, which doesn’t feel like enough running and an advanced plan, which seems too elaborate for what I’m trying to accomplish (not dying and finishing in the sub-5 hour range.) I plan on combing elements of the two and I hope to finalize everything soon. Their plan is 18 weeks and I’m now on week 2. I feel a bit guilty that I missed week 1, but I just ran a half marathon, so it’s not like I’m starting from square one.

I completed my first training run today and I felt great. Granted, it was only a 2.75 mile run, but it felt good to get back out there and I’m actually pretty excited to see what the next few weeks hold. I’m trying really hard not to get down on myself and have fun with this. Running is a choice. Nobody is forcing me to do it. It’s time to let go of expectations and have as much fun as possible while putting in the work…because I’ll be damned if I keep sucking at this.

Anyhoo, off to stock up on a few healthy things at Sprouts Market (aka, the mothership. Gosh, I love that place so much.)
