Is it monthly update time? I’m on it (mostly because I’m procrastinating at the moment.)
I’m running again, which, YAY! I’ve been running pain-free for a few weeks now, which is awesome. I was starting to get really worried that I may have done permanent damage to my leg and might be out of commission for months. Surprisingly, more activity seemed to help than simply letting it rest. I also foam rolled my leg a lot and that seemed to help too. Now it’s just a matter of staying consistent and making time for cross-training. Oh, and not letting myself be lazy AF (because if given the option, I will choose Bravo reruns on the couch over doing anything active…in fact, the reason I’m writing this blog post is because I’m avoiding my evening run. True story!)

Not sure how a cat riding on a burrito says ‘triumphant injury recovery,’ but I’m sure it does somehow
While I’m THRILLED I can run again, I can’t seem to get it together and do my long runs. Short runs are easy-peasy, but I’m having a hard time mentally wrapping my head around running for hours at a time on a weekend morning. I need to get it together though, because my first spring half marathon is a mere month away. I’m not too worried (because it ain’t my first half rodeo) but I know I should be training a lot more than what I have been. I need to remember that I’m a much happier person when I’m running. My shittiest run is almost always better than sitting around.
In other news, I bought a new car (well, not ‘new’ because that’s one of the worst financial blunders one can make…I’d rather let someone else take the depreciation hit.) I was really hoping to wait until the end of 2017, but I really needed new tires and my Camry was approaching the 200,000 mile mark. Sure, it was still going strong, but I knew I’d probably have to put at least $1000 into it and it just didn’t seem worth it if it wasn’t going to be around much longer anyway (I drive 500 miles per week, so even if everything was awesome with my car, I would probably still need to replace it in the next year or two anyway.) I traded it in and got a boatload of cash for it (‘boatload’ might be exaggerating, but I got more than double what I was expecting…my mom and I looked at each other like ‘OMG! Take the money and run!’)
I spent months researching cars to the point of ‘analysis paralysis’ I kept going back and forth between a Prius, Camry and Rav4. I’d decide on one, only to have doubts and talk myself out of it. I finally decided on another Camry (because I’ve loved driving mine for the last 11 years) but then gas prices started going up again and I was like ‘eff it’ I’ll be damned if I spend $80 to fill my tank again (ever pay $5 for gas before? It sucks. Gotta love California!) So I’m now the proud owner of a Prius. So far I love it! I know it’s not the right car for everyone and I know people make fun of it, but that’s fine by me. I’ll be laughing all the way to the gas station. I’ll have to do another post about the car (ha! I can barely post anything as it is) hopefully I’ll do it before the new car smell fades away.
Alright, I really should go run now. The Chicago Marathon isn’t going to train for itself, you know. Sigh.
