Everyone has an outlet – mine happen to be running and cooking. Running is usually my cure-all when I’m having a tough time, as the post-run endorphin-high almost always puts me in a better place than I was before I ran.
My other outlet is cooking. Unfortunately, my schedule is pretty packed during the work week, so I don’t do much cooking on weeknights (unless you count throwing a potato in the oven to bake as ‘cooking’) but I love to go all-out on weekends and this past weekend was no exception. Nearly everything I made was a new-to-me recipe/creation (I use recipes, but nearly always adapt them for my tastes, as well as what I have on-hand.) I also got to use my grandmother’s Dutch oven for two recipes this weekend and they were both incredible! (I like to think it’s because I’m using her cookware 🙂 )
I started off my weekend cooking extravaganza Saturday by making this bread
**please ignore my photog skillz. I know! I’m horrible at it!
It was amazing. I waited as long as I possibly could before slicing into it. I’m actually drooling a bit as I’m typing this because it was that good. I will most definately be making this again and again. Even my mom thought it was great and that says a lot (she likes most of what I make, but isn’t afraid to tell me when something didn’t turn out quite right)
I woke up Sunday and made a pumpkin protein smoothie made with Tera’s Whey it’s pretty much the only protein powder I enjoy and it’s minimally processed to boot. I also added a banana and some honey. After blending everything up, I promptly headed back to bed to snuggle with my boys.

I managed to get out of bed eventually and run the 2 miles to one of my favorite tasting rooms. I love living in wine country!

I made my way back home and got started on dinner. Unfortunately, forgot to capture a picture of the roast (I totally blame the vino) but I can assure you, it was delightful…I also skipped photographing the mashed potatoes and shaved, roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and cranberries. What can I say? I’m a horrible blogger!
There’s something so therapeutic about chopping and sauteing and pulling everything together.
Of course, by the end of the night I was exhausted and wanted to curl up and do this

Unfortunately, I’m not as bendy as Baxter (isn’t he cute?!)
And that concludes this week’s cooking extravaganza. I’m already planning what I want next week.
