Now that I’m officially jumping back into running (or should that be running into running? Or should I keep my side notes to myself?) I’m re-learning when to push myself and when to rest. After two back-to-back runs, I decided not to run during my lunch hour (instead I went on a 1.5 mile walk and posted this.) Everything from the waist down was pretty sore (in a good way, mostly) and I don’t want to injure myself before official marathon training begins in May.
However, the walk felt really easy and I’m hardly sore at all right now, so I may actually end up running doing a short, easy run after work. I’m almost regretting not just getting my run out of the way, but I know I’ll regret hurting myself even more. I gave myself a very painful bout of tendonitis while running a half marathon a two years ago (that I was under-trained for) and had to take three months off from running. THREE!! And, if I’m being honest with myself, I kind of fell off the ‘active lifestyle’ bandwagon after that and haven’t been super-consistent since (I mean, I’ve been working out…but I’ll be really good about it for two weeks, then take two off…that’s not going to fly for marathon training.)
The next few weeks should be pretty interesting running-wise as El Nino is FINALLY expected to hit the southern half of California. I’m super excited for the rain, but I need to come up with a few backup plans that don’t have me skipping workouts all together.
Anyway, I’m sure the above three paragraphs are boring for everyone except for me. Heck this blog will probably be boring for anyone but me. I feel silly even posting at all, but I want to keep myself accountable and it will be nice to have a journal of sorts to look back at. That’s all for now – time to get back to work!
