I’ve been blogging on and off (mostly off) for the last ten years. I always used free sites (blogger, wordpress and live journal and xanga?…back when that was a thing) because I was too broke/cheap to pay for a domain and I really didn’t want to put the time and effort into creating a website. To be honest, I’m still not sure I do (especially not after today) but after discovering that the domain name I wanted was available, I couldn’t resist. Plus, I thought it would be a great way to chronicle marathon training and my journey to financial independence.
I went with wordpress because I figured it the setup would be easy and painless. I was wrong. As it turns out, I had several free wordpress sites a few years ago (they’ve all been dormant and really, nobody needs to see the crap I wrote then…though, they probably don’t now either.) and it’s making it really difficult to set up what I hope is my ‘one and only, once and for all’ blog. I found myself getting really, really frustrated with the whole thing and very nearly deleted my shiny new website while I was trying to remove my old stuff.
I’m not the best with technology (I mean, I grew up on a computer, so I know some stuff…just not enough to deal with this) so I’m hoping that everything gets worked out in the next few days (they did say it could take up to 72 hours to get the domain stuff all ironed out.) In the meantime, I’ll try to keep my cool and just post what’s on my mind. If I have to, I’ll ask a friend that’s much, MUCH more technologically savvy than I am and go from there.
It’s frustrating that I failed at setting all this up, but really, it’s just a blog. A blog that will probably have two readers. A blog where I chronicle my marathon training, life happenings and mistakes. As always, I’m hesitant to even publish this, because really, it’s just a whine-fest about my lack of wordpress skills…but I just felt the need to write it all out.
Hopefully everything gets better from here…and if not, there’s always beer.
